Can you take care of my insurance claim?

What does a panel beater do?

Panel beaters aim to repair collision-damaged vehicles. They remove dents and, as much as possible, restore the vehicle to pre-collision condition. Along with aiming to restore panels to their original shape, a panel beater may need to replace the panels entirely. Chassis and body frame alignment also form part of a panel beater’s arsenal, as do tasks such as filing, sanding and repainting. Matching the new paint colour is also a requirement. The final result of a panel beater’s successful efforts will be a vehicle that shows no visible sign of being in an accident.
What does it mean when a car is a write-off?
Basically, a car is a write-off when (a) it is not repairable to the standard considered roadworthy (Statutory Write-off) or (b) repair is more costly than the car’s market value (Repairable Write-off).

Depending on your policy, your insurer could assess the damage as well as the value, factoring in:
- the car’s listed value
- odometer reading
- any outstanding premiums
- the value of your unused insurance registration & CTP
- its pre-collision condition
- your excess
A payout is generally offered to an eligible policy holder whose insurer deems their car to be a write-off. There are opportunities to dispute the insurer’s decision to write-off the vehicle.
Do I need to pay an excess?

Provided the other party was at fault in the accident and you’ve noted their correct details, you shouldn’t need to pay an excess. Confirm with your insurer then submit your claim to avoid delays. If, on the other hand, an excess applies, you would pay it to the repairer prior to, or on collection, of your vehicle.
Can I choose who does my smash repair work?

Yes. It would be illegal for an insurance company to prevent you choosing who you take your smash repair work to. For quality workmanship for your vehicle, it’s best to choose an authorised repairer.
